Newark Liberty Lounges (EWR): Every Lounge and How to Get In
Newark runs a dozen lounges across three terminals, and United owns four of the doors including its flagship Polaris Lounge. The catch is geography: the terminals are separate buildings, and only Star Alliance flyers get an airside shortcut between them.
- Lounge verdict
- Strong if you fly United from Terminal C, decent in the new Terminal A, thin in Terminal B, where the airline lounges keep evening hours tied to the transatlantic bank.
- Best access play
- A 59 dollar United Club one time pass is the most dependable buy in across Terminals A and C. Priority Pass covers only the Minute Suites near gate C125 and a spa treatment at Be Relax in Terminal A, so do not build a Newark plan around it.
- The one thing to know
- The terminals do not connect airside on foot. Star Alliance passengers can ride United's airside shuttle bus between them; everyone else exits security, rides the AirTrain and queues for screening again.

How the Newark lounge map works
The terminal decides your options. Terminal A, the new building opened in 2023, hosts American, Delta, JetBlue, Air Canada and a slice of United's domestic schedule, and holds three lounges plus a spa. Terminal B takes nearly all the foreign carriers, from British Airways and Lufthansa to SAS and La Compagnie, with four airline run rooms and the USO. Terminal C is United territory, the heart of its transatlantic hub, with two United Clubs, the Polaris Lounge and the only 24 hour option at the airport.
Hours below were checked on 6 May 2026. The pattern is unusual: Terminal A and C lounges open with the first bank between 4 am and 5 am and close by 22:30, while Terminal B's airline lounges mostly sleep until mid afternoon because their flights leave at night. Nothing here is a lounge you can spend the night in except a paid Minute Suites room.
One quirk works in your favour. United operates an airside shuttle bus for Star Alliance passengers, so they can reach a lounge in another terminal without clearing security again. The A to C route runs 4 am to midnight, and one way routes feed Terminal B from both A and C between 1 pm and 11 pm, boarding near gates A28, B67 and C70. Everyone else changes terminals on the landside AirTrain and starts the screening queue from scratch.
Terminal A
Terminal A lounges
| Lounge | Location | Hours | Access | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United Club | Across from gate A27, past security | 05:00 to 22:00 | United Club members, one time pass 59 dollars, Star Alliance Gold and premium cabins on international Star Alliance departures | Opened with the new terminal in 2023; bright, calm and nicer than either Terminal C club |
| American Airlines Admirals Club | Mezzanine above the central plaza, across from gate A8 | 04:00 to 19:30 | Admirals Club members, oneworld premium cabins and elites on qualifying international flights, day pass 79 dollars or 7,900 miles | Compact at 137 seats but rarely slammed; the 4 am open suits the first bank |
| Delta Sky Club | Near gate A8 | 05:00 to 20:15, Saturday to 18:15 | Delta One and SkyTeam international premium cabins, Sky Club memberships, Delta Reserve and Amex Platinum cardholders flying Delta, SkyTeam Elite Plus on international itineraries | Small and stylish with airfield views; expect a wait at the morning peak |
| American Express Centurion Lounge | Terminal A, exact site to be confirmed | Opening planned 2026, date to be confirmed | Amex Centurion and Platinum cardholders once open | 17,000 square feet with a terrace and a jazz bar are promised; not open as of June 2026 |
| Be Relax Spa | Near gate A7, past security | 06:00 to 21:00 | Priority Pass for one set treatment per visit, paid spa menu for everyone else | A spa, not a lounge; the Priority Pass freebie is a 15 to 30 minute massage |
Terminal A is the most balanced of the three: an American, a Delta and a United door within a few minutes of each other, all in a terminal that is genuinely pleasant to wait in. The United Club's terrace is the standout. The math changes again when the Centurion Lounge opens, which will be the largest in the Amex network and the first true card lounge at Newark.
Terminal B
Terminal B lounges
| Lounge | Location | Hours | Access | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| British Airways Lounge | Near gates B50 to B58 | 14:45 to 21:00 | BA first and Club World, BA Silver and Gold, oneworld Emerald and Sapphire on BA or oneworld flights | A craft beer bar, showers and preflight dining for first; built for the evening London wave |
| Lufthansa Business Lounge and First Class Area | B3 concourse, next to gate B60 | 15:15 to 22:30 | Lufthansa group premium cabins, Star Alliance Gold and elites, United Club and Maple Leaf members on Star Alliance flights, paid entry 35 dollars for Lufthansa premium economy | Rebuilt in 2024 with a separate first class section; evenings only, like its flights |
| SAS Lounge | B3 concourse, near gate B60 | 07:00 to 23:00 | SAS Business and SAS Plus, SkyTeam business class, SkyTeam Elite Plus, EuroBonus Diamond and Gold | The longest hours of any Terminal B lounge; SkyTeam flyers should aim here |
| LOUNGE&CO | Satellite B2, near gates B51 to B57 | Tied to La Compagnie departures, to be confirmed | La Compagnie passengers with a same day boarding pass | The old Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse space, now serving the all business class Paris flights |
| USO Center | North end of level 2, landside | 10:00 to 18:00 Thursday to Monday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday | Active duty, National Guard and reserve military personnel and their dependents | Snacks, recliners and a genuine welcome, before security |
Terminal B is where Newark's lounge map is weakest. The airline rooms open mid afternoon for the overnight wave to Europe, so a morning or midday departure from B means no lounge at all unless you qualify for the SAS Lounge or the USO. Foreign carriers without their own room generally contract one of these doors for their premium passengers; check your airline's airport page for the current arrangement.
Terminal C
Terminal C lounges
| Lounge | Location | Hours | Access | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United Polaris Lounge | Between gates C102 and C120 | 05:00 to 22:30 | United Polaris business class, Star Alliance long haul international first and business at departure | The best room at Newark: a dining room, showers and nap pods; status alone does not get you in |
| United Club | Near gate C74, upper level | 05:00 to 22:00 | United Club members, one time pass 59 dollars, Star Alliance Gold and premium cabins on international Star Alliance departures | Rebuilt in 2023 as United's most modern club; huge and still busy at every bank |
| United Club | Near gate C123 | 05:00 to 22:30 | United Club members, one time pass 59 dollars, Star Alliance Gold and premium cabins on international Star Alliance departures | The one with shower suites; usually the calmer pick of the two |
| Minute Suites | Near gate C125 | 24 hours | Priority Pass for the first hour with some card issued memberships excluded, paid from 65 dollars per hour | Private rooms with daybeds rather than a lounge; the only 24 hour option at EWR |
Terminal C is the reason to care about Newark lounges. The Polaris Lounge is among the best airline lounges in the United States, but the door policy is strict: a same day long haul international Polaris or Star Alliance premium cabin boarding pass, full stop. The two United Clubs absorb everyone else, and both heave during the morning and evening departure banks. If you only need a shower and a nap, Minute Suites near gate C125 quietly beats them all.

What actually opens these doors
Priority Pass is weaker at Newark than at any comparable American hub: no conventional lounge takes it. The card buys one set spa treatment at Be Relax near gate A7 and the first hour in a Minute Suites room near gate C125, and memberships issued through Amex and Capital One are excluded at the suites. Art and Lounge in Terminal B, once the lone Priority Pass lounge here, has dropped off current rosters; whether it returns is to be confirmed. The full strategy lives in the EWR Priority Pass guide.
United keys matter most. A United Club membership or a 59 dollar one time pass opens three clubs across Terminals A and C, and Star Alliance Gold or an international Star Alliance premium cabin does the same. The Polaris Lounge sits above all of that and only a long haul international business or first boarding pass opens it.
American Express currently means the Delta Sky Club: Platinum cardholders get 10 visits per year when flying Delta the same day, and Delta Reserve cardholders get 15. The 17,000 square foot Centurion Lounge under construction in Terminal A will change Newark's card lounge picture completely when it opens.
Paying at the door works at four doors: the United Clubs at 59 dollars, the Admirals Club at 79 dollars or 7,900 miles, the Lufthansa lounge at 35 dollars for the airline's own premium economy passengers, and Minute Suites from 65 dollars per hour.
Class of travel and status covers the rest, and the alliance map is tidy: oneworld means the Admirals Club in A and the BA lounge in B, SkyTeam means the Sky Club in A and the SAS Lounge in B, Star Alliance means almost everything United touches. Rules shift and lounges move, so confirm the door you are counting on the day you fly.

FAQ
Newark lounge questions
Which Newark lounges take Priority Pass?
None of the conventional lounges do. Priority Pass at EWR covers one set spa treatment at Be Relax near gate A7 in Terminal A and the first hour at Minute Suites near gate C125 in Terminal C. Memberships issued through Amex and Capital One are excluded at Minute Suites.
Is there an Amex Centurion Lounge at Newark?
Not yet. American Express is building a 17,000 square foot Centurion Lounge in the new Terminal A, the largest in its network, with opening planned for 2026. As of 6 May 2026 it had not opened and hours were still to be announced.
Can I get into a Newark lounge without status or a business class ticket?
Yes. United sells one time United Club passes for 59 dollars, valid at the clubs in Terminal A and Terminal C, and American sells Admirals Club day passes for 79 dollars or 7,900 miles. Lufthansa premium economy passengers can buy into the Lufthansa lounge in Terminal B for 35 dollars.
What do I need to use the United Polaris Lounge at Newark?
A same day boarding pass in United Polaris business class, or long haul international first or business class on a Star Alliance airline departing Newark. Elite status, United Club memberships and day passes do not open this door.
Can I use a lounge in a different terminal at Newark?
Realistically only if you fly Star Alliance. United runs an airside shuttle bus between terminals, with the A to C route operating 4 am to midnight. Everyone else must exit security, ride the AirTrain and clear screening again, which can swallow an hour.
