First, orient yourself
The 10 minute version of REC
Recife Guararapes runs on one terminal, with domestic and international gates behind a single security channel, so a connection here never involves a bus between terminals or a second screening. Check in and arrivals sit on the lower level, departures and the gates above, and one central security channel feeds a shared airside concourse. Aena finished a major expansion in December 2023 that added roughly 40 percent more floor space and a new international pier with jet bridges.
Connections are easy by hub standards. Domestic to domestic is comfortable at 60 minutes because the gates share one concourse. An international arrival connecting onward should allow at least 2 hours for immigration, customs and a possible bag recheck. Recife is the third hub for Azul and a focus city for GOL and LATAM, which is why so many northeast itineraries change planes here.
Free wifi runs on the official Aena network throughout the terminal, with charging at the departure gates. The terminal stays open 24 hours, but most airside outlets wind down by about 11pm, so on an overnight the landside restaurants and the lounges are what stay alive. Most seating has metal armrests and travelers consistently report the air conditioning as aggressive, so pack a layer.
The beach is the feature that sets Recife apart. Boa Viagem, the high rise beach district, starts almost next to the airport, a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride for roughly R$25 to R$40. Spend the slack in a lounge rather than the gate, because the metal armrests and cold air make the concourse a poor waiting room.

Ride apps such as Uber and 99 operate at the airport and usually undercut the taxi rank.
If you would rather stay, a W Premium lounge covers food, drinks and wifi, and the run of reclining loungers near the domestic gates in the 16 to 21 range is the best free seating airside, reported by travelers in late 2025.

Beach plus the old town, or a long lounge sit
With 8 hours you can pair the beach with central Recife or the colonial old town of Olinda nearby. Central Recife runs about R$40 to R$50 by taxi and 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour, and the Aeroporto metro station beside the terminal reaches Recife Central on the south line for a few reais, though the metro does not serve the beach. Build in a buffer for traffic on the return.
If you would rather not leave, the two 24 hour lounges and the landside restaurants make a long sit painless, and the expansion brought the commercial offer up to around 70 stores, cafes and restaurants.
Overnight
The terminal is open, but plan a bed or a box
Recife stays open 24 hours and overnighting is tolerated, but the seating has metal armrests and the air conditioning runs cold all night. The realistic options are a Siesta Box sleep cabin at domestic arrivals near belt 1, rented by the hour, or the Ibis Recife Aeroporto about 200 meters from the terminal. A W Premium lounge covers an evening rest, though both cap stays at about 3 hours.
Most airside outlets close by about 11pm, so for late food the landside Paco Real restaurant and a 24 hour cafe are what stay open.
