First, orient yourself
The 10 minute version of FOR
Pinto Martins is a single terminal airport run by Fraport Brasil, the German operator that took over the concession in 2018 and modernised the building. Everything sits under one roof: check in, baggage claim, lounges and ground transport. Domestic flights board from the main piers, and international departures use the low numbered gates, roughly 1 to 3, behind their own passport control on the upper level. No gate is more than a 10 to 15 minute walk from the entrance.
The airport sits about 6 km south of the Centro district and roughly 10 km from the Beira Mar seafront. Domestically this is one of the busiest hubs in the northeast: LATAM, GOL and Azul connect Fortaleza to Sao Paulo, Rio, Brasilia, Recife and dozens of smaller cities, so the domestic piers stay busy from before dawn until past midnight. The international map for 2026 is shorter but real, with TAP and LATAM flying Lisbon, Air France flying Paris on the longest route out of FOR at around 8 hours 40 minutes, GOL serving Orlando plus seasonal Miami, and Iberia back to Madrid since 19 January 2026.
Free wifi runs on the .FOR Airport Free network, unlimited and reliable, with the densest cluster of power outlets on the upper boarding level. Five hours is the sweet spot. Stay airside and the lounges carry it easily: the domestic Ambaar Club sells walk up entry around 200 reais and the W Premium runs about 220 reais, roughly 40 to 45 dollars, both with food and the W with showers. The domestic lounges and the landside W Arrival Lounge run 24 hours.
With Brazil entry sorted and your bags not in the way, five hours is also just enough for a quick run to the Beira Mar beachfront, about 20 to 30 minutes each way outside rush hour. Keep it tight and watch the clock.
8 hours
The beach is genuinely realistic
With 8 hours and the right documents, the Beira Mar seafront is an easy outing. The prepaid Coopertafor taxi booth in arrivals charges about 40 to 55 reais for the roughly 10 km run, while Uber and 99 typically cost 25 to 35 reais from the signed Aplicativos pickup area. Count on 20 to 30 minutes normally and up to an hour in the 7 to 9 am and 5 to 8 pm peaks.
You must clear Brazilian immigration to leave, so hold the right visa or eVisa for your nationality, then allow the recheck and security time on return. Budget being back at the airport two hours before a domestic flight and three before an international one. Verify before travel.
Overnight
Book a sleep room, skip the cold bench
FOR is better than the Brazilian average overnight. The terminal never closes, several cafes trade around the clock, and security leaves sleepers alone. The catch is the furniture: most seating carries armrests, and the air conditioning runs cold enough that a blanket or warm layer is not optional.
