With 8 hours and the right to enter Brazil, a trip into Belo Horizonte becomes realistic. The Conexão Aeroporto executive bus reaches the Lourdes district near Savassi, the part of the city most visitors want, in roughly 50 minutes on a clear road. Fares run from around R$27 on the semi express service up to about R$45 on the executive line, and the buses run from 04:30 to 23:00 at intervals of 30 to 60 minutes. Savassi is the place to spend the time, with cafes, the Mercado Novo bars and a plate of real mineiro food. Budget two hours of round trip road time plus the security queue on the way back, and aim to be inside the terminal two hours before departure. That still leaves a few useful hours in the city.
Overnight
Plan a bed, do not bank on a bench
